How to write an impressive résumé

Along with a strong portfolio and cover letter, an impressive resume is one of those things that will help you get hired for the jobs you want more quickly.

One great source of information I've found on how to write a good resume and cover letter is Guerrilla Resumes. Written by a professional copywriter and recruiter, they've done a lot of research on how employers and hirers read resumes. They tell you what parts of a resume or cover letter gets read, and how to make them stand out (for example if you include a "P.S." on a cover letter, it's extremely likely to be read).

Most employers make a decision within the first three seconds of seeing a resume or cover letter. To get your resume into the 'keep' pile you have to take a more visual approach to make it stand out in those first few seconds.

P.S.: Did you know that a signature written in blue ink is perceived more favorably than one written in black or red? That's just one of the interesting and useful tips I learned from Guerrilla Resumes. Now I use a blue pen whenever I want to sign something important. :)
